Slovak hockey reorganisation

March 7th, 2010 | Žiaden komentár | V kategórii Slovak hockey

The Olympics is over. The fourth place is the best result of Slovak hockey national team ever.  The mood here isn´t as good as it should be, though. We could have a medal. But that´s not the only reason…

As I mentioned in my last post for GHL, many of our players won´t be able to play at the Sochi 2014 and the Olympics after that so we might never have such a good team. There is a big flaw in „middle-aged (20-25 years)“ and junior hockey players. You might know Tomas Tatar, Richard Panik or Jaroslav Janus but that´s probably all. Slovak hockey needs to undertake a tremendous reorganisation in many ways. I´m not going to name them as it´d take at least one very very long article. But some of the changes´ve already come here. For example, we´re considering the foreign coach for our team (Glen Hanlon is likely) and that´d be great. There is a strong need for not being associated with Slovak hockey federation or biased when creating a final roster , that only man from an other country can fulfill.

The next mass hockey event is the World Championship in Germany. We can´t get down to „B“ category so there must be as many young players in the nomination as possible. The same holds true for next years to come (I mean the young players thing) so there is a strong likelihood you won´t see Slovaks fighting for more than quarterfinal. But if everything is done well (personally I have a little doubt here), we might be more than match for Canada team in about 10 years or so.
